It’s Not Too Late to Squeeze in a Late Summer Vacay to Napa

August 22, 2019
Category: Visit Napa

If you want to squeeze in a last minute vacay before the fall routine kicks in, Napa Valley is the perfect destination. Bring the kids, enjoy a romantic weekend with your significant other or make it a girls’ trip. When you see what August and September brings to America’s wine region, you’ll see why people pick Napa for late summer vacations.

Why End-of-Summer is a Great Time to Visit Napa

Harvest season kicks off in August, so you can get a feel for the excitement that this time of year brings. Vineyard workers pick grapes at their peak ripeness – the very grapes that will be used to make delicious wines sold all over the country. To celebrate harvesting season, you can enjoy fun seasonal activities like harvest dinners, grape smashing and balls.

One thing to point out is that late August in Napa is hot. Temperatures are still in the mid-to-high 80s, so if you prefer cooler weather, you can hold off until September. This is usually the time of year when the temps drop to the perfect 70s. But, if you don’t mind the heat and plan to spend some time on the water, schedule your visit sooner than later.

What to Do on Your Late Summer Napa Vacation

Need some ideas on what to do during your end-of-summer getaway? Here are some of the most anticipated events happening before fall.

The Village Beerfest, August 31, 3:00-7:00PM

Do you like craft beers and food trucks? Then The Village Beerfest is a must! This fun-filled afternoon features live music, freshly crafted brews in the onsite taproom and food truck fare. Napa Smith Brewery, Trade Brewing and Heretic Brewing Company are some of the breweries you can expect to see. General admission is $45 and includes all beer.

Ciderfest, September 1, 12:00-3:00PM

Join The CIA at Copia for the third annual Ciderfest, a kickoff to the apple season. Enjoy tasty samples of local and specialty ciders while relaxing back to live music, seasonal treats and beautiful weather in Napa Valley. Admission is free, but it’s recommended to reserve tickets in advance. Cider tastings are $3/each.

Harvest Ball, September 14, 6:00-9:00PM

V. Sattui’s Annual Harvest Ball is one of Napa Valley’s most spectacular events of the season. For 35 years, this event offers world-class entertainment, amazing culinary plates and a handpicked selection of the finest wines. The black-tie event is held at V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, overlooking the vineyards. After the multi-course meal, you can enjoy entertainment from The Funky Hippeez. Tickets are $260/members and $285/non-members.

Harvest Celebration & Stomp, September 20, 6:30-10:00PM

Looking for an authentic grape stopping celebration? Castello di Amorosa leads this exciting evening out where you’re able to sink your toes in grapes on the Crush Pad. You can also take part in the Grape Stomp Competition, or cheer your friends on from the sidelines. After getting your toes dirty, you can enjoy a delicious buffet paired with Castello wines. Entertainment for the evening is by N2L Band. Tickets are $145/members and $175/guests.
